NOGALES, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents discovered thousands of rounds of ammunition and magazine cartridges during an inspection of a truck headed into Mexico.

Officers stopped a Mexican national in a tractor-trailer at the Mariposa Commercial Port for an inspection Wednesday night.

When they lifted the bed inside the sleeper compartment, they discovered boxes of ammunition and magazines for weapons.

In total, they seized 22,400 rounds of ammunition and 70 hunting cartridges.

"Stopping weapons and ammunition from going out to the criminal organizations is just as important as stopping the drugs and other threats from coming into the United States," said acting port director Craig Hope.
