Authorities have been busy making some big drug busts.

CBP officers stopped more than $500,000 worth of cocaine from crossing into the United States. The bust happened Tuesday at the Gateway International Bridge. The 16 pounds of coke were found in a Chevrolet Impala. The driver, a 23-year-old Brownsville man, was taken into custody. The drugs and vehicle were seized.

Brownsville police arrested a man they say is tied to a Mexican cartel for drug trafficking. David Deras is charged with possession of cocaine. A Crime Stoppers tip led officers to his home where they found 18 pounds of cocaine worth nearly $180,000. Police say Deras' drug trafficking operation is connected to drug cartels in Mexico.

And $2.5 million worth of marijuana is off the streets. The bust happened last Friday at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. Federal agents stopped a tractor-trailer. During inspection, 423 packages, nearly 2,500 pounds, of pot were found hidden in the trailer. CBP officers seized the drugs and tractor-trailer.
