On April 8, at about 10:35 p.m., Border Patrol agents from the Casa Grande station, as well as police officers form Eloy and Coolidge, responded to the Eagle Ranch, located at the south of South Night Sky Street, in Eloy, Arizona, according to a news release from the Pima County Sheriff's Department. They were responding to a call of shots fired at an illegal alien smuggling load, the release states.
Upon arrival, officers found one deceased person in the bed of a pickup truck, and a second in a wash northeast of the truck, the release states. Several alleged border crossers were found hiding in the brush nearby.
It was determined that the incident actually occurred in Pima County, and PCSD's Homicide Unit responded to investigate.
Detectives determined that the alleged border crossers were traveling in the truck in a wash commonly used for human smuggling, officials stated. They were ambushed by an unknown number of subjects dressed in camouflage and armed with rifles, the release states. Shots were fired at the truck, fatally striking two subjects.
